How to play
- Read the first clue and type the category you think it belongs to.
- Wrong? The next clue appears. You can also tap Next clue without guessing.
- Right? Your score is the number of clues showing: 1 is perfect, 5 is a scrape.
- Miss with the fifth clue showing, or tap Give up, and the answer is revealed. It counts as played, not solved.
An example
The clues arrive one at a time, hardest first:
- Cup
- Pan
- Cheese
- Fish
- Birthday
“Cup” could be a lot of things. “Pan” narrows it down, and by “Birthday” it’s clear: they all go in front ofcake. Solving it on the second clue would score 2. For “words before…” puzzles like this one, just type the word they share.
What counts as right
Capitals, punctuation, accents and plurals don’t matter, and neither does a leading “the” or “types of”, soChess pieces, chess piece and the chess pieces all count. Most sets accept a few natural phrasings, and a slip of a finger in a longer word is forgiven. A wrong guess never costs more than the clue it reveals, and repeating a guess you’ve already tried costs nothing.
The daily and your streak
Everyone gets the same daily, and a new one arrives at midnight your local time. Solve it on the day to grow your streak; miss a single day and a banked freeze covers it. Solving yesterday’s from thearchive today keeps the streak from resetting, though only a daily played on its own day adds to it. Your stats stay in this browser.
